Final Edits
1st draft of documentary:
After completing my fist draft of the documentary I uploaded it and asked if anything could be changed or improved upon, These were the results:
A response to my first draft of the documentary was that it was too long. To fix this I decided to look through the documentary for things that could be removed or shortened.
The first thing I thought I could shorten was the Toxeine intro. Sean (Toxeine) also mentioned that he didn't want the second part of the song to be in the intro (the $haine Cobaine verse) so I thought I would kill 2 birds with 1 stone and cut the intro in half, making it significantly shorter as well as removing the unwanted part of the song.
First, I opened a new timeline and copied over the original Toxeine intro. See Below:
I then cut off the second part of the audio which was requested to be removed and looked through the intro to see what clips could be removed or shortened and reconstructed the introduction with these clips shortened/removed. See Below:
The runtime of this introduction went from 54 seconds down to 27 seconds which is a significant decrease in runtime. See Below:

The next thing I done was, when he lists his favorite North-East artists. I show short clips from their music videos as they are mentioned and use crossfades to make it flow smoothly throughout. See below:
The next thing I thought I could shorten was the first Toxeine interview.
First, I opened a new timeline and copied over the original Toxeine interview. See Below:
I then removed two questions/answers. I removed 'Have you collaborated with any other artists?' as the answer was very brief and therefore didn't add anything to the documentary. See below:
Before: After:
I also removed 'What is your current studio set-up?' as it was irrelevant to the documentary. See below:
Before: After:
After removing the two questions I removed the unneeded background music from where these questions used to be and had to readjust the rest of the audio so it still sounded as good as the original. This was more difficult than I thought it would be as there was a lot of audio edits that I had previously made. See below:
The runtime of this introduction went from 3 minutes 25 seconds down to 2 minutes 57 seconds which is a decent decrease in runtime. See Below:

While I still had this interview in a separate timeline I decided to work on some additional feedback. Some feedback I got was to add more cutaways throughout the documentary.
I looked through the first interview to find places suitable for cutaways.
I started with obvious ones such as when different artists are mentioned an image of them will appear or when referencing uploads an image of the upload will appear.
For the artists I got and image of each (minus one as they aren't very well known and hard to find images of). He says al 3 names quite quickly so all the images were right next to each other, this made the transition between both the images and the video quite abrupt. in an attempt to make this flow a bit smoother I made the first and last images play for a longer duration allowing me to add a slow-ish crossfade going into the images and back into the video. I also added a very quick crossfade between the 3 images so it was a bit smoother than just an instant cut. See Below:
For the reference to an upload, I simply got a screenshot of the uploaded video and used a crossfade so it faded out just as it was mentioned, it only shows for a short period of time as it is mentioned in more detail in the next question of the interview and I play a small clip of the song with the song cover displayed on the screen. See below:
I then looked for any additional, less obvious, things such as showing an image of Sunderland when he is talking about how Sunderland has effected his music. For this I got 3 still images from Sunderland and done I cross fade throughout each image allowing for a smooth cutaway montage while he is talking about Sunderland. originally There was 4 images used but it felt a little rushed so I removed an image as a way to fix this problem. See Below:
This is the interview with the newly added cutaways (the new cutaways are in pink):
I then added the edited interview back into the main timeline. See below:
I then looked at the Kyle interview as I thought there could be a few cutaways used in that interview. The only cutaway I ended up adding was a short video of Toxeine when Kyle is talking about his music. See below:
I then added the edited interview back into the main timeline. See below:
I then looked at the Bailey interview as I thought there could be a few cutaways used in that interview. There were quite a few cutaways that could be done in this interview.
The first one I done was, when he is talking about the music community I show an image of a live show preformed by a local artist which I crossfaded in and out. See below:
The next thing I done was, when he is talking about his tattoos he mentions a couple of artists who influenced his tattoos, as he mentioned these names I done a cutaway to an image of each artist using crossfade. See below:
This is the interview with the newly added cutaways (the new cutaways are in pink):
I then added the edited interview back into the main timeline. See below:
I then looked at the Joe interview as I thought there could be a few cutaways used in that interview. There were quite a few cutaways that could be done in this interview.
All the cutaways in this interview are references to artists, I edited this the same way I have with previous artist cutaways (the new cutaways are in pink). See Below:
I then looked at the DJ Shem interview as I thought there could be a few cutaways used in that interview. There were quite a few cutaways that could be done in this interview.
All the cutaways in this interview are references to artists, I edited this the same way I have with previous artist cutaways (the new cutaways are in pink). See Below:
I then looked at the Mark interview as I thought there could be a few cutaways used in that interview. There were quite a few cutaways that could be done in this interview.
All the cutaways in this interview are references to artists, I edited this the same way I have with previous artist cutaways (the new cutaways are in pink). See Below:
Some more feedback that I got mentioned that the cut to the credits was very abrupt so I experimented with ways to make it smoother. First I made a small, few second gap between the credits and the end of the documentary which stopped instantly going into the credits. To make this smoother I also made both the video and dialogue audio fade out. I also made the credits and accompanying music fade in. Finally I stretched out the music track which was playing in the background of the interview and made it fade out as the music of the credits faded in, creating a very smooth audio transition.
